The Daily Telegraph once showed an interesting animated GIF image, showing a rotating dancer. Depending on the direction of the perceived rotation, either your left or right side of your brain is supposed to be dominant.
Although it took me quite some time, I finally managed to perceive
the dancer turning clock-wise. It is actually quite rewarding, once "the switch"
takes place you can't believe that you were convinced she was rotating in
the opposite direction just a few seconds ago!
In addition, the column showed two lists of functions associated with each of the hemispheres of your brain:
| LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS | RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS |
|---|---|
| uses logic | uses feeling |
| detail oriented | "big picture" oriented |
| facts rule | imagination rules |
| words and language | symbols and images |
| present and past | present and future |
| math and science | philosophy & religion |
| can comprehend | can "get it" (i.e. meaning) |
| knowing | believes |
| acknowledges | appreciates |
| order/pattern perception | spatial perception |
| knows object name | knows object function |
| reality based | fantasy based |
| forms strategies | presents possibilities |
| practical | impetuous |
| safe | risk taking |
Well, what can I say, 95% of my personality should then be attributed to my left hemisphere, if these lists are correct.
